Our musicians have been
performing for gigs and special events for over 20
years.
Lisa Berman, violin, holds a Masters Degree in Violin
Performance from the Yale School of Music and a Bachelor of
Arts degree in music history and theory from Yale
University. Lisa began violin lessons at age four at
MacPhail Center for Music, where she studied with Mark
Bjork and Mary West. Lisa is a past first prize winner in
the Schubert Club Solo Competition and has been a guest
soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and at
Tanglewood.
Carol Brunzell, viola, studied with Alice Preeves,
former violist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and
Salvatore Ventitelli at the University of Minnesota. She
has played with the Minnetonka Symphony, and for the past
15 years has been principal violist in the Health Sciences
Orchestra, in addition to many small group ensembles within
the orchestra. She has performed as a member of small
ensembles for events across the Twin Cities.
Mike Freiberg, piano, studied piano at the MacPhail
Center for Music, where he studied with Yakov Gelfand. Mike
played in orchestras while attending Georgetown University,
where he majored in Russian. He has studied piano at the
St. Petersburg Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia, and
with Cary Lewis and the Pacifica Quartet at Interlochen
Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan. Mike performs
chamber music regularly in venues across the Twin Cities
and at weddings, churches, and events.
Sheila
Graves, viola, holds a degree in Viola Performance from
Northwestern University. She plays with the East River
String Quartet and freelances in the twin cities and has
been a member of the Sioux City Symphony, the South Dakota
Symphony and the Heidelberg (Germany) Chamber Orchestra.
Sheila has taught at Augustana College and the University
of Sioux Falls. Her experience includes owning her own
shop, G & G Violins. She has been the Sales Manager of
House of Note Violin Shop since 1998.
Elaine Lewellyn, cello, earned her Masters in Music
Performance and an (all but dissertation) Doctor of Music
degree from Indiana University. Elaine has taught at
Stillman College and Greensboro College, and has been a
member of the Winston-Salem symphony in North Carolina. She
performs regularly in chamber music ensembles in venues
across the Twin Cities and at weddings, churches, and
events.
Ingrid Liepins, violin, received a Bachelor of Music
degree in violin performance from Capital University in
Columbus, Ohio. She is an active freelancer in the Twin
Cities playing in quartet, trio and orchestral
settings.Ingrid has played with the Columbus Symphony
Orhestra, the South Dakota Symphony, the Academy Quartet at
Augustana College and numerous other chamber groups.
Besides playing, Ingrid works at House of Note Volin Shop,
helping people find violins.
Mary Newton, Organ, Piano, is currently the organist
at St. Barnabas Lutheran church. Mary holds a BA degree in
Music from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, a
Master's in Church Music degree from Concordia University
in River Forest, IL, and is currently pursuing a DMA in
organ performance from the University of Minnesota. Her
teaching experience includes 4 years of teaching private
piano at St. Barnabas as well as teaching at a music studio
in Minnetonka, MN.
Kristen Sammartano Weeks, violin, studied with Jim
Riccardo at St. Catherine’s College. She has performed with
musical theater companies around the Twin Cities for the
past six years, including productions with the Gilbert
& Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, with New Breath
Productions, and, often, as a solo violinist with
Bloomington Civic Theatre. She has also played with the
Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra, in coffee houses with her
acoustic band, and for weddings and events.
